Taco Bell, the U.S. fast-food-chain that serves Mexican morsels, is promising a free, seasoned, beef crunchy taco to everyone in North America if either a Detroit Tiger or a St. Louis Cardinal hits a home run into the left-field or centre-field stands during tonight’s World Series Game Three.
Free tacos will only be available at Taco Bells in the U.S. and selected franchises in Canada between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 1.
In the past three World Series, there have been 23 home runs hit, of which eight (34.8 percent) were hit to left field.
Hey the MAVs gave free chalupas whenever they score 100+ points at any home game in the past.. so this isn’t any huge precedent or anything. More on the story and details here.

Health officials are investigating a woman’s claim that she found part of a human finger in a Subway sandwich - an allegation reminiscent of the chili bowl finger hoax at a Wendy’s restaurant last year.
Two health inspectors visited the Subway restaurant Thursday in Chowchilla after the woman reported finding what appeared to be a half-inch piece of a finger a day earlier, said Jill Yaeger, director of the Madera County Environmental Health Department.
The inspectors did not find any evidence that a restaurant worker had lost part of a finger, and they found no violations of food handling procedures there, Yaeger said. The purported human digit was sent to a laboratory for testing, and the incident was reported to police.
The Subway manager, Anita Munoz, said she was in the restaurant when the woman returned with what she claimed looked like a finger.
“It looked like a thick piece of fat,” she told The Fresno Bee. “It doesn’t look anything human to me.”
More on this story here.

This scrollable frying pan looks pretty useful. You can check out the other winners for the “kitchen is the heart of the home” design competition here.

Nearly every kitchen has a storage problem with too much room taken up by pots, pans, equipment, and white goods. The Scroll Pan is a product which radically changes the way we perceive the regular frying pan. It folds and rolls and addresses the serious issue of storage. Great for cooking omelettes, bacon, steak etc the Scroll Pan introduces more fun to frying. Folding your omelette, for example, has never been easier. Different shapes and sizes as well as cooking surfaces would be available in the range and each pan comes with a storage sleeve which can be hung up. The rolling base of the pan could be made in a number of ways. Diphenyl silicone (plasma treated and Teflon coated) would produce a heatproof and flexible surface. Safe to cook on, light, durable and easy to clean the Scroll Pan is a modern, stylish and fun addition to the kitchen.

If you don’t know what an automat is, it’s because there aren’t too many around these days. An automat is a type of restaurant where you buy items from “vending machines” containing small windowed compartments (you’ve probably seen the mini versions that sell cookies and lunchables and other snacks). Their popularity declined in the 60’s and 70’s, and the last real automat in the U.S. closed in the 90’s.
But two entrepreneurs are bringing the automat back to the U.S. with their opening this year of Bamn in New York City. The restaurant features “hearty comfort food choices - some with an Asian twist - at vintage prices.” Even though you’re essentially buying the food from a vending machine, the food is made fresh throughout the day. Seems like a pretty interesting concept.

A 27-year-old man got the surprise of his life when he found some $18,752 (15,000 euros) inside a burger meal he ordered from a McDonald’s restaurant in Waterloo, Belgium.
Marco Parra-Martinez ordered a take-out burger from a McDrive restaurant.
But he was surprised when he inspected the paper bag containing the meal, to also contain an envelope with the money which is equivalent to over $18,000.
He said, “I hesitated one moment, asking myself if I shouldn’t keep the money. But my parents taught me to be honest at all times.”
Parra-Martinez decided to return the envelope to the restaurant.
A spokesman for McDonalds said the cash was restaurant earnings that had been accidentally been put inside Parra-Martinez’s order. They promised him a reward for his honesty.

For 350 yen you can try out one of Japan’s latest food creations — the Kannana Noodle Burger. Instead of buns, the burger comes with two layers of ramen noodles. If you’re a ramen fan, I’m sure this sounds a whole lot more appetizing than a Big Mac.
